1997 Rav4 stereo died?

Unfortunately, I have NO experience working with cars. But, here is my dilemma: today, i plugged my lighter into my 1997 Rav4 and the CD player cut off mid-song. It will no longer work. My CD player, tape player, and radio will not work. My lighter will no longer work. Even the little clock on the dashboard is dead. I don't know what happened, but if someone could PLEASE tell me what's wrong and how to fix it, I would be eternally happy.
