You can look up this car's blue book value on-line. I own a 1999 Toyota Rav 4 with 183K on it, 2500 sounds like a fair price if the car is in good condition. Have you looked at the body and test driven the car yet? How about the tires? Are the treads worn out or still has some life into it. Has the timing belt been changed? Most importantly is if this owner has taken good care of the car like getting regular oil changes and tune ups. I'd ask to see the maintenance records and also take it to a reputable mechanic you know and trust and ask him what he thinks. If a car is well taken care of, you can easily go another 100000 miles on it. If you can afford it, it's better to buy a car that's less than 10 yrs old and with as few miles on it. After about 10 yrs, a car will start to fall apart no matter how many miles it's been driven, simply because the parts are plain old.
