......who is destined to judge the living and the dead, and by his manifestation and his kingdom, 2*preach the word, be at it urgently in favorable season, in troublesome season, reprove, reprimand, exhort, with all long-suffering and [art of] teaching. 3*For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; 4*and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories.

Why would the dead have to be judged, if all those that where righteous are in heaven & all those that are unrighteous are in hell?

What does verse 2 say that we must do & when must we do it?

Who is verse three & verse four talking about, & what are these false stories?
NO opinions please, unless you don't know what the Bible says, then opinions are all you have, so fire away, opinions merit thumbs down, for mans thoughts are not Gods thoughts!
Martin S How do you torment the wild beast & the false prophet(they are symbols, the wild beast has seven heads & the false prophet has frog coming out of his mouth. he Devil is real, you can't tke thing that are alive & put them with symbols, things(death), & a place(hell). You used scriptures, but you mis-applied them! But your application of false stories was right, but there is many more than what you said.

1. Because they are not yet. Look at verses 8&17, and also 1 Cor 15:23 & John 5:28,29.
2. Because we are to look out for each other´s welfare, which is the washing of the feet, i.e. the walk.
3. This is a continuation of chapter 3:1-8; that in the last days people will no longer accept the truth, but will always look for a way to modify righteousness to accommodate sin.

Satan says other wise. He is the judge in the last day and all that do not have His seal will be sent to a place similar to your bible hell. What if Satan is our true God? How would you feel that you were being deceive when you find out that Satan is good and the right full God?

Please do some research because it is your soul that is at stake.

So the dead don't go immediately to heaven in the now sense. However I don't see a "time passed" sense in the afterlife. It will seem like right away for the judged.
Don't hide your light under a bushel basket. What are we doing now? In any weather.
There will come a time when people won't listen to the truth but create their own teachings and cling to their lies and slander and hurt those that cling to the truth. We see this in the present political environment.

The dead will receive one final judgment, as seen here:

Revelation 20:11-15 (New International Version)

The Dead Are Judged
11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

There is a final judgement for the dead. After the millennial reign of Jesus.

We are to speak about God always with self-control and wisdom.

I think this talks about the current church that is so easy to find on television. With preachers who give motivational speeches instead of preaching from the Bible. Rev 3: 14-22

14"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. 15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. 19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. 21To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."

Why would the dead have to be judged, if all those that where righteous are in heaven & all those that are unrighteous are in hell?

Hell or Hades is like a holding tank for the damned before they come to stand before the Judge at the end of this age.

Revelation 20:10-15 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.

13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

What does verse 2 say that we must do & when must we do it?

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.

2 Timothy 2:23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Who is verse three & verse four talking about, & what are these false stories?

It is talking about people who listen to preachers of the "prosperity gospel" where God is presented as a cosmic Santa Claus who doesn't even keep a list of who is naughty and nice but just wants to bless everyone with earthly riches.

Or people like the Mormons who teach that there is no Hell but only 3 celestial kingdoms and that even if you are not a good person you just go to the lowest level of what would be a paradise compared to how the earth is today.

When the passage was written, there were a group of people known as the Gnostic's who taught that only the spirit was pure and therefore a person could engage in sexual immorality because the body was already defiled being material and not spiritual.

Down through the ages there have been a variety of these types of false messages.

If all the righteous are in heaven and the wicked in hell, then Jesus would not have said, "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment."

All people go to the grave (hell, Hades, Sheol, the pit) when they die. (Genesis 3:19; Ezekiel 18:4; Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10) They have already paid "the wages of sin" which is death. So they would be resurrected, as described in Revelation, and depending on their willingness to follow God and Christ's direction, would then be judged.

Early Christians were vigorous teachers of the teachings of Christ and of the Kingdom, for which he taught us to pray. (Matthew 6:9, 10) Paul was encouraging Timothy to continue on in his preaching and teaching work, doing so with patience, even if he had to reprove someone in the congregation for wrongdoing.

Now as we reach in final part of the "last days", it is even more urgent for true Christians to follow Jesus command to "make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them all the things I have commanded." (Matthew 28:19, 20)

Not everyone would listen as indicated in verses 3 and 4. Many would prefer to remain in false religion because it was easier (having their ears tickled) or turning aside to false stories (evolution, immortal soul, even believing there is no God at all). But the Christian's duty is still to warn of the coming end of this system of things, whether men listen or they do not.
