20/20 Program " Appalachia Children of the Mountains"?

What is your opinion of the 20/20 program about the children of Appalachia ? I watched tonight and it was quiet depressing. I read the comments on the ABC website and most were from people from Kentucky who felt the program was unfair.

the football player broke my heart. I hope he finds a way back to college. The toothless stuff had to be embarrassing for those people. Too much attention to that I think. I thought 60,000 a year for working the mines sounds like good pay if anyone out there needs a job, they have 100 job openings in the coal mines there.
 
I didn't see it as I live in New Zealand but a couple of years ago there was an American documentary on at the Auckland Film Festival about families in the Appalachian mountains & it basically showed inbred, toothless people, some of whom seemed mentally retarded. I'm not sure how accurate it was re what people are like there but it was embarrasing to watch. It reminded me of the movie Deliverance from the 70's. The only nice thing I recall from it is that some of the people were talented at Bluegrass music & they toured around the place.
