Drove to school this morning, car was fine. It sat in the lot for 8 hours. When I started the car to leave, I didn't realize anything was wrong until I really accelerated. The engine was revving abnormally loud and RPM was like 3500~4000. There is a little LED symbol that tells you what gear you are in, (1,2,3,4,D) on the instrument cluster, right now it shows up blank, no letters or numbers. The shifter goes from P - R - N - D. Once i am in drive it will go to neutral but will not go to reverse or park, i have to manually turn off the car in order for the shifter to go past neutral. When I shift from nuetral back to drive, the car jolts up, instead of being smooth. I believe I am stuck in a gear, 2-3? On my way home i was doing 35-40 the entire way with the RPM at 4000. The engine light is also on. Anyone have a similar problem to this? It's going to the dealer tomorrow, but would like to know for personal knowledge what is going on. The people at the dealership usually make it sound much worse than it is, especially when your warranty is over.
Thanks for any input!
