2001 Subaru Outback whine, non turbo?

I was driving home when it was raining today and i noticed that there was a whine from under the hood of my subaru outback 2.5L non turbo.i was not sure if it was caused from the rain or not but i have been looking at some things on the internet, and i am seeing things from the alternator to the transmission (EKK OH NO!!)
If you could provide some insight as to what it might be it would be greatly appreciated
it seems to happen when i give it gas and when the RPMs go higher

Alternator is what came to mind when I read your headline.

To be sure, post on a Subaru forum and go to a mechanic.
