I asked the same question a few days ago but because I didn't use the right word, it might have been confusing so I'll try it again.

The emergency brake indicator stays on even when the emergency brake is down. One of the symptoms is that the lamp comes on when I accelerate etc. Now most of the time I'm driving it says lit. I bought this car 4 years ago and never had a tune-up or have had brakes checked up. I wonder if it's something to do with the switch or something else. Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you

I'd use a little bit of common sense here, you haven't had your brakes checked in four years? I'd have them checked. As others have stated the light is probably related to the switch but to go 4 years without checking brakes is inane.

It could be a sticky switch. or road salt has affected the cables
a bit and it's not returning fully.

Take it to a local reputable repair shop and see if they can
spray some wd-40 into the parking brake mechanism and
switch. This may do it.

Did you happen to spill any coffee or soda down there.

It may also need to be sprayed with lube from under the car.

You can always press the button and hold it while you move
the lever up and down many times. Eventually this may loosen
things up....

Hope this helps a bit...
