Okay so heres the run down with what is going on with my truck. Me and my buddies decided to go mudding today in a mud hole with water in it. I decided to man up and take the drive first. I got through and got high centered on some ruts therefore getting my truck stuck in about 2.5 ft of water. My friend couldnt tow me out so we had to call a tow truck. So after all is set and done my truck sat in about 2.5 ft of water for an hour + or - a few minutes. when we got the truck to a safe place to start it the truck fired right up and ran great. (revved it up a few times to blow the water out of the muffler) drove it down the road to insure it drove fine. which it did. I pulled in to the car wash to rinse the undercarriage of mud and debris. after doing so the instrument cluster wouldnt work and the truck wouldnt start. after fumbling the ignition it fired right up and the cluster worked intermittently. After setting to dry for an hour or two the cluster works fine and the truck fires right up. Well now all 4 indicator lights on my 4wd column are lit up. (2hi, N, 4hi, and 4lo) and on my dash its throwing a "serv 4wd" message. Also the truck in drive will only shift out of 1st into 2nd and then 2nd into 3rd after it gets up to about 5k rpms and then you ease off the throttle to let it shift. it will not go into 4th gear. and the transfer case is whining unusually loud. I called a mechanice and he said something about a sensor on the electronic motor for the transfer case getting wet and possibly shorting out. also he said something about the transmission sucking water into it through a vent? he said sometimes the problem can resolve itself by letting the truck sit for a day or two to dry out completely. any thoughts on this. I am not too well off monetarily. so I can not afford to sink big bucks into my vehicle. please any suggestions. I now realize how terrible the colorado is for that type of off road driving I understand other vehicle choices couldve been better for that style of abuse. Just need to fix the issue so I can continue to use my colly for road use only. please help. (the mechanic said it sounds like its purely electrical shortage issues. any other insight on what might be the cause.

it dose sound like you got water where you should not have.
check trans and transfer case fluids,
if they have water in them you have to change them , it will not dry up on its own
the electric motor may dry out but most of the time they are toast when they get wet
good luck
remember deep mud = deep pockets
the deeper the mud is the more it will cost you to fix it

not only that but the Colorado's tranny is not meant for that kind of abuse I had a similar issue involving mud check your tranny pump gears and sealants I melted those doing that in mine even though I only ran it for half an hour after the fact the mud acts like an insulator and can very easily cause these problems also if your tranny fluid looks sort of brown and diluted you need to do a full systems flush of the transmission fluid it should be a clear pinkish color and p.s. your heading z71 issues the z71 is a suspension package for off road this dose not mean your tranny is nor dose it refer to your trucks tranny or engine it is simply a suspension package that gm offers
