2005 Volvo s40 shock/strut issues?

I have a 05 s40, auto tranny, with 90,000 mile that seem to have front end shock/strut issues. When I hit a bump the front end suspension will responds sluggishly and will then bounce up and down. It is worse at low speeds.
I have yet to purchase the Haynes manual for the car, but am going to as soon as I can.
Furthermore, I am a fairly capable mechanic/tinkerer; but am new to passenger vehicle suspension. Do I have bad struts? Bad shocks? How can this be assessed? Would adjustment help?

Sounds like your struts may be shot.Buy the Chilton to go with your Haynes.Some times one will be unclear but the other will clear up your question.Huh....Okay,try this.Haynes is a good drivers repair book and the Chilton is a good technical repair book.Between the 2,you can get the job done easier.
