The United States basketball team, also known as the Dream Team, has won the gold medal. While Spain gave a good fight, the U.S. was able to escape with a 107-100 victory. It’s the second straight gold medal for the United States in the Olympics after Argentina won the gold medal back in 2004.

Kevin Durant led the way for the U.S. with 30 points and nine rebounds. He hit five three-pointers, including a few key long range shots late in the game. LeBron James, who also played well in the clutch, totaled 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the United States led by only one point. However, in the final period of the Olympics, the U.S. proved to be the best team in the world.

“A lot of teams have won gold easy,” LeBron said. “We didn’t want it that way. We’re a competitive team, and we love when it gets tight. That’s when our will and determination kind of shows.”

Silver goes to Spain for the second straight Olympic Games. In the bronze medal game, Russia defeated Argentina.
