Michael Phelps returns to the pool looking as focused as ever to avenge a loss in 2012; Katie Ledecky is looking to medal and the U.S. women’s soccer team is playing for a good seed.
Morning slots:
The day starts with a pair of events involving American athletes. At 10 a.m. ET on NBC, daytime coverage starts with USA’s No. 1 beach volleyball duo*of Phil Dalhausser and Nicolas Lucena competing at Copacabana Beach against the Mexicans Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros.
Right after that on NBC, women’s water polo begins*with the USA making their Olympic debut against Spain. The U.S. women are the defending Olympic gold medalists and are the top ranked team coming into the Rio Games.
Afternoon slots:
If you thought that rugby sevens is all about power and grit, Team USA has something else for you: speed. The American team features two blistering wings in Perry Baker and Carlin Isles that can turn a match around with one touch.

See what I mean? The U.S. faces*Argentina in their Olympic debut in the latter part of NBCSN’s 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. slot.
If you’re a basketball fan, stay tuned on NBCSN at 1 p.m. ET where 2012 silver medalist Spain takes on the host country Brazil. *NBA players Pau Gasol, Ricky Rubio and Jose Calderon headline Spain’s roster, who will be looking to shake off an upset loss against Croatia, while Brazil will have Nene, Marcelo Huertas and Leandro Barbosa gracing the court.
If swimming is your thing, qualifying rounds of 100-meter freestyle will be featured during NBC’s daytime coverage starting at noon. Nathan Adrian will be competing during the qualifying heats to put himself in a position to defend his 2012 gold medal.
Stick around NBC at 2 p.m. to watch the U.S. take on Italy in men’s indoor volleyball. The U.S. did not have a good start to their Olympic tournament with a loss to Canada on Sunday. They will need a win against Italy to put themselves in a good position for the elimination round.
Ending NBC’s daytime coverage at 3:45 p.m. will be beach volleyball with Team USA’s Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat facing a monumental test against Brazilian gold-medal favorite Larissa Franca and Talita Antunes.
Primetime slots:
Start your night off on NBCSN at 6 p.m. ET with women’s soccer as the United States hopes to secure the top of its*group against Colombia. The U.S. women have already punched their ticket to the next round, but can make their elimination route much easier with a convincing win tonight.
You can switch over to watch the beginning of NBC’s primetime coverage where women’s synchronized platform diving kicks things off at 8 p.m. If you want to walk off the beaten path, NBCSN has gold medal rounds of judo and weightlifting at the same time.
But don’t stray too long. Women’s team gymnastics will be aired on NBC with Team USA looking to win their second consecutive team gold medal. Three-time world champion Simone Biles will be leading the way for an American team that is a heavy favorite to win the meet.
Stick around NBC where the coverage returns to the pool for the day’s finale. Michael Phelps will be looking for revenge against South Africa’s Chad le Clos, who topped Phelps in 2012 at the 200-meter butterfly. *Phelps looked dialed in during the semifinal round Monday, even in the face of le Clos who appeared to be playing mind games with him.
Also in action will be the highly anticipated 200-meter freestyle, where Katie Ledecky will be fighting to win a gold medal against a talented field of swimmers, including world record holder Federica Pellegrini of Italy. *Finishing off the night will be the men’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay, where Team USA is looking to win their fourth consecutive gold in the event.
