Simone Biles returns to the gymnastics floor looking for an individual all-around gold she appears destined to win. Also in action are Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, who will be facing off in the pool for perhaps the last time.
Morning slots:
Starting at 8 a.m. ET on NBCSN, daily coverage of the Olympics begins with women’s archery, which will feature American Mackenzie Brown, who will be fighting to get the United States’ first women’s archery medal since 1976. Beach volleyball is also part of NBCSN’s morning coverage.
Keep it on NBCSN at 9:45 a.m. for women’s fencing in the team epee quarterfinal round. Women’s judo follows with the elimination rounds of the 78kg weight class, featuring American Kayla Harrison defending her Olympic gold from 2012.
Also in action will be the U.S. women’s water polo team, which will be battling China in the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center. *All eight teams will be making the quarterfinal round, but a higher seed will be beneficial for the top-ranked U.S. team.
Also in the morning starting at 9 a.m., golf makes its return to the Olympic games after a 112-year absence on the Golf Channel. *The United States is sending seven participants to the event and hopes to come away with medals on both the men’s and women’s side.
Afternoon slots:
On at noon ET, you can catch the preliminary rounds of the men’s 100-meter butterfly, women’s 800-meter freestyle and 200-meter backstroke featuring Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky and Missy Franklin, respectively. *At the same time on the USA Network, however, badminton will be taking place if you have gotten swimming fatigue.
The U.S. will have both men’s and women’s beach volleyball pairings in action at 2:30 p.m. on NBC, with Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat squaring off against Russia’s Ekaterina Khomyakova and Evgenia Ukolova, while Phil Dalhuasser and Nick Lucena take on Paolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo of Italy. *However, more medals will be won on NBCSN at the same time with archery and judo going into the gold medal finals.
Keep it on NBC at 5:30 ET when the medal games of men’s rugby sevens take place.
Primetime slots:
For Simone Biles, the individual all-around competition at 8 p.m. on NBC will be the culmination of four years of waiting and winning everything else in her path. *After winning the team gold, she will be looking to add to her already legendary trophy case.
Michael Phelps can potentially become the first swimmer to win an individual event in four straight Olympics in the 200-meter Individual Medley. USA teammate Ryan Lochte will be joining him in the pool for the event, hoping to improve on the silver medal finish he had in London and knock off his teammate.
