I have a 43inch LG TV model no. RE-44Z21RD. A few years ago it wouldn’t power up properly, just struggled then went to standby, turns out the projector bulb had gone so I replaced it and that was it fixed. Now it’s doing the same thing, but I've checked the bulb and it's intact. When I switch on the TV it struggles to 'power up' and there’s a whirring noise. It never actually shows a picture it just struggles then gives up. I removed the bulb housing and tried switching on the TV again (whilst pressing the sensor switch so it thought the bulb was in place) and it wouldn’t start up but there was no whirring.....?

Any ideas what it might be? The connection from the bulb housing to the TV perhaps?

Thanks

You answered your own question. You had a "whirring" noise, removing the lamp and pressing down the lamp door switch you didn't have a "whirring" noise. The "whirring" noise is the ballast trying to light the lamp. Replace the lamp.
