I am a little past 72K miles on my car. I know I need a 70k checkup (which is basically an oil change and rotating tires, correct?) Does anyone know the approx cost of this? Also, I was told by one place my timing belt should be replaced as it was cracking. Considering how much work it takes to even look at it, do you think I was being lied to? I am not in extreme weather conditions... I lived in Sacramento for 2 years but doubt that would make it crack this soon. I called another place and he thinks it is 'a load of crap' that I would need to have it replaced this soon. Better to be safe then sorry or forget about it until I reach 90-100?

most mfg. recommend changing the timing belt after 60,000 miles. if it breaks when engine is running will cause major damage. If you have an owners manual read the maint. section. 70K checkup may include oil change filters, air, oil, fuel and spark plugs unless you have the irridum type plugs. brake check and trans flud and radiator fluid change an maybe brake fluid flush. again check your owners manual or the auto zone or kragen or NAPA web sites for maint on your vehicle.
