70's sci fi book about space ship that can manufacture anything?

several short stories about drifters who are shanghaied by an intelligent space ship that has it's own motives and puts them to work solving problems. The ship can manufacture anything but only produces things that help in solving the problem.
These may have been published in Analog magazine in the 60s as well.
