We have a 8 week old staffie puppy who sleeps in a puppy cage at night and we put her in there when we are out during the day.She wakes about 2-3 times during the night barking, whining and I get upo and let her out for a wee-poo.We have a largish back garden where she goes and plays but is constantly whining and its starting to drive us mad, even the neighbours have made comments about her,is there anything i can do to lessen this.

let her out before you go to sleep and when YOU wake up, the whole kennel training thing is, they wont potty where they sleep, if it takes a few accidents so be it they catch on pretty fast. DONT get up in the middle of the night to get her she'll learn thats all it takes. you'll have to ignore her all night, but she will evenually where her self out. as for boredem in the kennel, a kong with a little bit of peanut butter in it or a chew toy or bone, also dont feed them 3 hours before you plan on heading to bed. good luck

if you keep her awake all day& dont let her take naps, also and run all of her energy out as in letting her run and play alot during a day, and take her for a walk if ya want, and she will be so worn out she will be happy to go to bed and will sleep really good!

When you put her out during the night - go with her and as soon as she's done, bring her straight in again, and into her crate, with a biscuit if you like. NO PLAYING. Shut off the light and go back to bed until it's time for you to get up. I had my puppy's crate by my bed, and set my alarm for around 4/4.30 to get her out. And I tried to anticipate her waking so she didn't get the mind-set that whining and carrying on was going to get me up. At 8 weeks they can't hold all night, but once should be enough to get them out otherwise they won't learn to hold.

Unfortunately some puppies make more noise than others, especially when crated. How long are you crating her for during the day? Puppies should not be crated for longer than 1 hour at a time, at this age. Otherwise it's crate abuse I'm afraid, and small wonder she'd be whining and barking. Cover the top and three sides of the crate and have it in the living area during the day with the door open, so she gets to use it as her bed. When you have to go out, shut the door, but don't leave her, for now, for longer than 1 hour. You can gradually increase the time you are away as she gets older, but adult dogs should not be crated for more than 4 hours at a time on a regular basis.

A dog is not a caged bird, and forcing them to spend long hours caged is cruel and abnormal, for a dog. If they have to be left for longer (not good, dogs are social animals and need their 'pack' around) make a room safe for them, or a pen with far more space than a crate.

your doing a good job, dont let it get to you, its a puppy for heavens sake. Just keep letting it out, and eventually it'll stay in the cage all night without whining. We crate trained our 2 dogs until about 6 months, but 1 dog we still crate when we leave cause he likes to chew up carpet and shoes.... And tell your neighbors to mind their own business
