looks in very good shape, and 31k miles? crazy. is it a good deal? and would it be fine for as a first car for a 20 year old? how much will insurance cost me?

2.5 Liter 4 Cylinder Fuel Injected with the 5 Speed Manual
i live in the bay area, california

Only 31,000 miles!!!

That is low. These cars usually go for $4000-$5000 with double that mileage.

Because it is a 4 cylinder and 20 years old, insurance will not be high. I only pay $75 per month for my 2000 Porsche Boxster, which I bought at 21 years old two years ago.

Because you are younger, I imagine you would pay a similar amount. $75-100 per month.

One common problem is the timing chain. It is an expensive fix. You likely have the original timing chain. Be sure to replace it every 50,000 miles.

Only if you have the income to take care of it. A 944 is very maintenance-heavy, so if you can't spend $100/150 per month to keep it on the road, (plus of course, gas and insurance) don't buy it.

the low miles are very suspicious---run a CARFAX on it.

also, have it checked out at a Porsche specialist shop---there are lots of good ones in the Bay Area---Hi-Tec Automotive in San Rafael (Marin) is very good indeed.
