My 240 has had a high idle (roughly 1300-1500 RPMs) after I rebuilt the bottom end and timing chain components, the weird thing is that when I stop and apply the clutch the RPMs shoot up to about 1300 to 2000RPM then when I apply the brake it goes down a little, I still need to check the AAC valve and the AIV Valve. The timing is right and the car runs great but whenever I stop the it idles high, I've clamped off one of my thicker hoses coming off my air intake system, its gives me a lower idle but not my ideal way to fix the problem, BTW I have no codes or lights and the light is functioning, and the hose I clammed off may link to the AAC valve, I'm pretty sure all the vacuum line are right but its hard to tell when all the vacuum lines are right behind the motor and in front of the firewall. I'm not sure if I should go the long rout and take it apart and clean all the intake system, and the AAC, FICD, AIC??? I've been at this for months any help would be great**

the vacuum adjusts the idle. check the O2 sensors, filters (gas and air), mass airflow sensor, charcoal canister, and pcv valve.

try a can of mass air flow sensor cleaner. spray it into the intake/injectors while the engine is runnining. spray it slowly and hit the injector linkage hook up to speed up the rpms when the engine is sputtering.

add a can of intake cleaner each time you fill up the gas for the next three times. put in the most intake cleaner for the amount of gallons of gas your gas tank holds. run it close to dry and more intake cleaner when necessary to refill.
