97 buick skylark battery help?

On monday night, my battery light had come on. On wednesday night, the battery died. I had it towed home, and bought a new battery. Getting it in the car was no problem. I started it, the battery light didn't come on, the car didnt stall, and when i turned it off, and was able to start it again.

However, 4 hours later, i start it again, and the battery light comes back on. None of the gauges come on, and the headlights work. What could be wrong?
The alternator is brand new. Was put in around august of 2008

It wasn't the battery, it is the alternator. The battery ran the car until it started going dead and then the alternator could not supply enough juice to keep it charged and the battery went dead again.

Probably your alternator is shot, and not charging the new battery as well.
