A military question: Which was best--the Jeep, the M1A1 utility truck, or the HUMVEE?

My own military experience did not include the HUMVEE. It came into service a few years before I retired and I never had occasion to drive one or to ride in one.

I did have experience with the Kaiser-Willys Jeep, however, and the M1A1, including the M1A1-A2. Each of these vehicles has its advantages and disadvantages. Jeeps were small and compact, but also very vulnerable to enemy fire. The HUMVEE appears more robust, but it would appear to me to be more difficult to transport.

Okay, military vets. What's your preference? And why?

I would say the HUMVEE, although I have any experience with the other two vehicles.

God what I would give for an old Army Jeep. pre 1975. You could fix it with a paperclip and bubblegum.

Well when you think of the time period they were designed for and how they were designed. I would say the Jeep was one of the best vehicles the military ever made considering the course of it's service.
