...a square yard. How many square ya? A recreation room has the following dimensions. Carpeting will cost $9.00 a square yard. How many square yards of carpet will be needed and how much will it cost? Include correct units at each stage within your solution.

The simple solution, however, is to multiply the length of the room by the width of the room, divide that by 9 to get the number of square yards, then multiply the number of square yards by $9 to get the cost.

If the room is L-shaped, however, might need to break it up into 2 rectangular sections and figure the area of each separately, then take the sum of the two to find the total area.
