I am about 2/3rds through this book and I know nothing about Afghani politics. One minute its communists one minute its just a bunch of killing, etc. The book is by Khaled Hosseini and takes place in Kabul, Afghanistan from 1978ish to 2000something. I know the Taliban was in power from 1978-2001. (Looked it up online). So if anyone has read this book and understands it (what group did rasheed, jalil, laila, etc. belong to? What were laila's brother's fighting for?)
 
They didn't really belong in a group they just followed what the Taliban's requests were which was a long list u read it
lalia brothers were martyrs they died because the russians invaded and they fought for there home coutry so that is how they died
great book by the way i cried all the way through it
