Getting back on topic, what do you guys think of what these pro lifers in Ohio are trying to do? I think it is deeply dehumanizing, and very invasive.

Best thing that could happen to the pro-choice movement in Ohio.

The trans-vaginal ultrasound bill in Virginia has seriously damaged Bob McDonnell ability to run for higher office.

Agree with Holy that its probably a good thing for the pro-choice movement. Even in America I don't see the majority of people, even pro-life ones, agreeing to a bill that extreme.

Arguably the politicians are only involved because they're religious zealots. Also, seeing as politicans are the guys who make choices regarding policy they're naturally going to be involved in a debate about what the policy should be

Something I've pondered within the abortion debate is the rights men have with regards to pregnancies. I mentioned ages ago in this thread that I have a problem with the way a woman has complete control over whether a pregnancy is carried on or not (not something I object to) but men are essentially screwed: If we want to keep the baby but the woman doesn't she has the right to terminate it. At an extreme level I guess there's a discussion to be had about whether a woman going through 9 months of pregnancy is worse than a life time of regret for a bloke?

Anyway, the other issue is that if a man makes clear he has no interest in having a child but the woman ignores him and births the kid, then the male is forced into paying child support. That is something I have a considerable problem with but I've been struggling to word it into a decent point. So I gave up and went to the internet. I found this relatively recent article

Unless the man was raped, he is 100% free to limit himself to having sex with women who want to have a baby. The regret argument is nonsense.

This is a different matter. If a woman wants to carry an unplanned pregnancy to term, the man should not be on the hook for the next 18 years unless he agrees to it. He should be able to waive all parental rights and responsibilities at the beginning of the pregnancy - a financial abortion if you like.

Btw, while I understand your reasoning, I don't agree because the risk of pregnancy is well known in advance. If you have casual sex, you should accept that that may have consequences.

Fair one. That was a crappy point I made anyway. The thought about paying was what I was really interested in, the regret thing was something that became a thought as I typed.



That's my way of looking at it. I think there'd have to be some time limit though, like a guy couldn't decide the day before the birth they didn't want to be involved because the finances should be something factors into the the woman's choice to keep or not I would think.



What if I disagree with marriage?



Here's my thing with that: Its the exact same argument that's used to outlaw abortion. If someone favours that viewpoint then cool, no problem, but while I was looking for articles on this I hit a feminist site and almost all the comments were saying the same thing about how you know pregnancy is a risk form sex so men should be willing to suck it up, but at the same time they were completely pro abortion. It was weird.
