Adding RAM on a Dell Dimension 4700?

I bought a ram stick which I know fits, it's a 1 gig stick I also have a 256 mb stick in there. I was wondering if I can add in the 1 GB stick and keep the 256 MB stick. If I could, could i add another 2 sticks of 512 mb bringing me to a total of 1 gb stick, 2 512 mb sticks, and 1 256 mb stick?
