To any of you akita owners out there...My bf is a farmer and someone dumped, what I'm pretty sure is, an akita puppy...
He's at my house for the time being for wormings and shots etc..
I'm guessing he's about 9-10 weeks...A rather large puppy but completely emaciated...He's maybe about 11 inches at the shoulders and only weighs maybe 12 pounds...I'm I'm pretty sure that 2 of those pounds are worms !
I wormed him this morning and I'll worm him for the next 2 mornings (fenbendazole)..Wednesday morning he'll get his first 7 in one shot..(That's the only day I can give him a shot when the vets office is open, I don't like to give a first shot without the vet being open)...
Please don't tell me to take him to the vet...There's nothing wrong with him that good solid nutrition and wormings etc. can't fix..
I guess my question is for all you akita owners...I used to show dogs but it was in the sporting ring so I really don't know about akitas...I went to akc.org and it says that they'll get 26-28 inches and I'm pretty sure that this guy is going to top that out !
So about how many pounds is a healthy adult male ?
Akc.org says they are "aggressive toward other dogs"...Is this the norm or just the occasional akita ?
Should I be feeding him puppy food, large breed puppy, or high protien adult ? I've heard that in large breeds you should feed them high protien adult instead of puppy food ?
Right now he's heating high protien adult because tha't what I have here and he's gained like 2 pounds in 4 days !
You can feel every rib, every vertabrate...I can't believe people..
I've noticed that his tesicles haven't descended....They're just not there...Maybe that's why he was dumped ?
Anyways..Any tips on what to expect from a male akita are greatly appreciated...He's alert, proud, and a pretty happy little guy..
(And so far hasn't chewed up anything in my house)..lol
