Alex Rodriguez is inching closer to returning to the New York Yankees. The latest news has Alex Rodriguez playing DH in the minor leagues for a couple games. Then, as soon as next week, Alex Rodriguez could be back in pinstripes.
Brian Cashman, the GM of the Yankees, admits that the return of A-Rod would be huge for his team. Said Cashman: “We miss Alex, there’s no doubt about it. He is a proven right-handed power bat and since we’re a left-handed dominant lineup, he is vitally important to us, especially late in a game.”
On the season, Alex Rodriguez is hitting .276 with 15 homers and 44 RBIs. Without him, the Yankees are only 17-15. Their once large lead in the AL East is down to only 3.5 games.
Cashman cautions that it will take more than Alex Rodriguez’s return to turn around New York.
Said Cashman: “Alex is going to come back rusty, we have to be prepared for that. If we’re going to turn this around, it’s going to have to be a team-wide effort.”
