I've owned a cockatiel for about a year now. I have always let her out of the cage and let her around the house. Since her wings are clipped, she can't fly well and she often hits herself against the wall or lands on hard floors. It's only recently that I've become aware of how hazardrous this can be to my little bird, as her beak and legs are the ones that get hurt whenever she flies. I still let her fly but I ensure that she lands on something soft, like a carpet or an old pillow. Still, I can't believe that it took me so long to realize that her flying around the house can be so dangerous. Does that make me a bad bird owner?
