I'm a non-White American? Well, I'm brown (Bangladeshi-American).
And the thing is, I've always worried that people might look at me and ask, "Where are you from?" and when I say America, they'll say, "No, but... where are you *from*?"

It seems rather discouraging since I'm sure an Italian-American, Irish-American, or even an African-American wouldn't ever get that.

Also, in high school or college I never bothered applying to study-abroad programs (unlike a lot of my classmates) because the hosts might end up disappointed that I wasn't what they hoped for in a visiting American.

Worst of all, I worry that people might be rude to me, and treat me like I'm a migrant worker or something. I know some foreign countries, like the Gulf Arab and East Asian ones, are ridiculously racist against people who look like me.

Should I just suck it up and stick to America?

Ironically, as a half-paddy I have gotten that, twice on one trip.
When I went to Italy, I was stopped in customs and asked on the street. I don't know why they thought I was an Irish national, or why they were stopping them, but it happened.

And dude that's hardly the case. Think of Europe. You know how many non-Europeans live there? That would only be a concern in Asia, Latin America, and Africa. That aside, international travel is the best.

thats just sad
of course you should go out and see the world
