Amtrak or Greyhound, which is better?

In January I will be traveling from Iowa to California alone.
I am planning on flying one way, however I want to take another form of transportation the other.
I have taken a Greyhound from Iowa to Ohio before, but I people with me. I really didn't mind it. I actually thought it was fun.
I have never taken Amtrak though.

I've been looking up rates and all the amenities, I want to get my tickets sooner to save money.
Amtrak is only about 40 dollars more, which to me isn't the biggest deal.
Also the train I'll be taking specifically says they don't have wifi on that train. It also says there are very few outlets.
However, Greyhound each person gets an outlet and it has wifi...
This is a 2 day trip on either of these and I'm going to need my laptop (to relieve boredom) so, this is a VERY big factor for me.

My other concern is safety.
I'm a 19 year old female and I would prefer not to have things stolen or have people trying to mess with me.

So, which do you think would be best for this trip?
Anyone have personal experience going on a trip this far with these forms of transportation?
Please any advice is welcome!

Also, please, do not try and convince me to fly both ways. I've flown many times and I've always wanted to do a cross country bus or train trip.
