Android phone won't recognize my google account.?

Ok so i got a new phone today and im trying to get on the market place but its not liking my google account. If i go to the market place on my computer i can log in fine but if i try to log in from my phone it says "(my email) does not use Gmail" ... but i have a Google account that i just put in, AND works when i log in from my pc.
