Earlier today, there was CC Sabathia injury news. Now, Sabathia has company. Andy Pettitte, another starting pitcher for the New York Yankees, has been diagnosed with a broken ankle. Pettitte was injured when a ball him on his lower leg.
Unlike Sabathia, Pettitte is going to be out a while. The Yankees are saying he’s going to miss at least a month and a half. At the earliest, late August is being talked about as a potential return date.
Pettitte, who came out of retirement this season, has pitched really well. He’s 3-3 with a 3.22 ERA. At 40 years old, it looks like the lefty still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
To replace Pettitte in the rotation, the Yankees plan to turn to Freddy Garcia. Garcia was solid last year but has struggled so far this season.
