I watch Pimp My Ride sometimes cause it's a pretty entertaining show. But have you guys noticed that they usually put something in the trunk like a huge TV or something that makes the car completely useless for hauling anything? It's like "great, I can watch TV from my trunk but can't even put a suitcase back there". They over modify the vehicles so much that its regular functionality is completely defeated. Lots of the people they build cars for need them for their jobs and that's their only transportation, so I don't get why they do that.
The last one I saw featured a skater guy who owned a bread van with a big retractable ramp door in the back like most storage vans have. But Pimp My Ride put a big skate ramp in its place along with giant sub woofers covering the rear entrance to the van. They also put in a 25,000W sound system with speakers and subs covering the entire back of the van. Personally, I'd rather have the van the way it was before because a cargo van is not cool enough to drive as a fun vehicle and now it doesn't have a real purpose. Also, the one guy on Pimp My Ride always has to make each car have something "no other car in the world has" regardless of how stupid and pointless it is. For example, a 25,000W sound system in a cargo van or 20 TV's in a Ford Mustang.
What bugs you guys about the show? Have you ever wondered whether or not these people keep these cars also? Almost all the people on the show are lower class and struggling to get by. So selling a TV car that potentially has a street value of 70-100K might be very tempting.
It also bugs me when they clearly say they have a somewhat respectable job. You can buy a car that runs, drives, and looks fine for $1000. But if they did that, they wouldn't get a $100,000 car for free!
