I know its late, but congrats Tika

Fave book? it has to be Band of Brothers, by Stephen E Ambrose. its about Easy Company of the 101st Airborne, in the US Army, from when it was founded to the end of WW2. it was made into a TV series on BBC and HBO. the detail of things like D-Day and the battle of the Bulge is unbelievable

Even since I first read this book I am to this day still enchanted by a Native American tail capture on script by Jamake Highwater called "Anpao".
Besides a truly romantic premise the book entwines native legends explaining from the grand creation of earth to why a deer's nose is spotted. It explains the reverence of the buffalo, the significance of the raven, the life of the sun and his family - wife the moon and son the morning star, and much more native folklore that is rare to find since it is mostly oral tradition.
The plot is that Anpao wants to marry a chief's daughter but she is claimed by the sun. So to court her Anpao travels many years leaving his beautiful heartland to appeal to the sun for her hand although unsure of the sun's response. On his journey home the land is in ruin and European settlers have brought with them diseases eradicating tribes and reducing them to amoral fiends.
The story is so involved and introduces creative characters like the guardian snake boy or the seductive deer woman.
It is a must read for anyone interested in fantastic literature based on tribal legends.
