Anthony Kiedis incident. Your take?

Its a bit of a set of extreme examples you got there compared to what was really happening...BUT

Anyone remember the Bomber Hostage taker in Tottenham Court Road, London last year?
Police were cordoning the area explaining the situation and you had people who still were demanding to go through because "I want to". Despite some guy with "bombs" screaming death and what not.

I couldn't find the link on youtube but there is a vid of a PC having a go at the member of public for demanding access.

Some are. Some aren't.
The point is..until you actually talk to the security guy and get the low-down on why you are being denied access to where you want to go you don't know what's going on.
So give it a couple of minutes before you kick off.

"Why can't I come in?"
"We've got a man having a cardiac arrest and want to keep the exit clear for get him to hospital asap".
"AH OK man...I'll stand to one side"

"Why can't I come in?"
"Justin Beiber wants the lobby kept clear"
"Hell's no...bundle...pile on!"

Do we really think the situation was explained? Or do you think security man saw a bloke covered in tattoos and thought 'Stones groupie' and treated him as such.

Nope. Seemed to flair up in about 5 seconds.
I have a feeling that the presence of the woman may have elevated things?
Seems badly handled on all fronts really.
But me...it'd take more than what we saw occuring to go hands on with someone.

And reports suggest the security guy was neither a hotel employee or a member of the Rolling Stones team. It has been suggested that he was local muscle used to bolster the Stones' security detail - so that might explain why it wasn't more artfully handled.

It's hard to judge exactly what happened when you can't hear what was said.

The bloke who appeared to be asking/telling the tattooed gentleman not to enter the building didn't look like he was trying to be confrontational, because he smiled and tried to look friendly. BUT.... he stuck his arm out in a very forbidding sort of way, and that probably came across as being confrontational. He should have kept it purely verbal.

Having said that, the tattooed chap had no right to attack him.

In suofftopicry, I blame the Rolling Stones, because they should have retired decades ago.

I wonder if they have an organized union to prevent that, or something in their contracts stating they can't just be fired for one incident like that?

I agree with what you're getting at, but things like this are usually presented to the public by emergency personal and trucks with flashing lights. Or if it was in the beginning moments at least a person outside yelling to the public to get clear.

A flood though? Coming FROM the hotel? That would be quite a strange circumstance.

You don't get burst water pipes in the US?
We had to stop training last year at Karate because the roof started leaking in a bad storm, into the tennis courts in the gym, and through electrical conduits and light fittings.

Anyway...security man handled it badly but Kiedis handled it even worse.
More than likely because he had a woman with him, is used to being on the other side of security himself and is...you know...an ex-drug addict front man in a famously crazy rock band.
Like throwing water on an oil fire.

I have yet to see something so bad with a burst pipe that an entire building has been closed off, but my experience is rather limited. I'm sure it has happened plenty of times before though.

I think we're all missing the real context of the situation here though, and that is somebody got in-between a man that was in desperate need (in his mind) to get to his room to take care of a biological urge

You're right, we've overcomplicated things. Better to get between a mama bear and her cub than between a middle aged man and a bathroom.

Prostate problems are no joke, people.

You would think the Stone's tour management would have learned about the risks of that after Meredith Hunter.

In case you don't know what I am talking about.

When the Stones played Roundhay Park back in the late eighties they used their own 'security' - bikers with baseball bats. (I was there and I saw them.)

To be fair, I did security in the same place when Genesis played there a few years later, and I wish I'd had a baseball bat. And a flamethrower.

From what I remember of that story, wasn't it a crowd member who pulled the knife? Not saying the Angels were gentlemen at all.

i believe at altamont, the angels said that they guy had pulled a gun. but if you've watched "gimme shelter", the angels were just looking for trouble.

i also recently read a book about the grateful dead. there were so many mistakes made during planning altamont. something bad was bound to happen. in this case many things, the angels even beat up marty balin of jefferson airplane. the dead at least had the wherewithal to not play, unlike the stones, who were filming a movie.

And you could tell by looks alone that this guy was not associated with the hotel? Of course not. That's why you stop and listen to see what they have to say first.

This happens far more than you know. Some people just don't care and will always try to negotiate special treatment for themselves.
