Any advice comparing a mazda rx8, mazda3, and an acura rsx?

I am 21 years old looking to buy a new car. Unfortunately my truck is not going to last me because I have put in nearly $2000 in the past two months, only about $500 less than what it is valued at. I have began to look for new cars and I would like to get some advice from past owners, enthusiasts, and/or mechanics, basically anyone with an above average knowledge of the cars.

I am looking at the 04 and 05 mazda3 because it would be good on gas seeing that my round trip commute is nearly 40 miles roundtrip 5 days/week. I like the look of the car and I realize maintenance would not be a huge expense. When I test drove the car I felt very comfortable, although it was an auto and I would prefer the manual.

The 04 and 05 rx8's does have a rotary engine and I have read that that will require above average attention, which I am willing to give provided my car will in turn last me 4 or 5 years as an everyday driver. My mom has a sportscar and my grandparents have a lexus sports car, so I realize what it takes to drive and what it takes to maintain. If checking and adding the oil is the only hassel associated, I don't see any other problems with this car.

As for the acura rsx I don't know too much about this car when compared to the other two, so any info would be a big help.

I will be buying this car with money out of my own pocket so please don't give me the spoiled kid attitude. I am a college kid working 30+hr/week to put myself through school and I would enjoy a nice car to drive around town. I am willing to do research and put the effort into my car and I am not going to be a kid driving around looking to race, although testing the limits on the highway is not out of the question. Please, any legit and knowledgeable advisor would be greatly appreciated.

The RX8 should be a good car for you. Because you will be driving it long enough to get it up to operating temp before shut down. They have a flooding problem so make sure you follow directions on operation.
Before you buy anything, check out what your insurance rates will be. This has been the final selling point for me on the cars that I drive the most (Miata). When I bought them I found out that I could save enough on insurance over some other cars that the cost of the Miata was free.
