We plan to travel to Taiwan at this coming 9th December 2009 and this is the 1st time we are at Taiwan. hope to receive your recommendation and suggestion.

If you are just going to Taipei. I suggest that you make good use of the mass transit railway system. It's a cheap mode of transport and the system of stations gets you to almost all the popular places in town. Get yourself a tour book of Taipei and surrounding areas and plan travel radiating from each train station. Find a hotel that is within walking distance of a train station and you are all set to go. The travel theme in Taiwan can be of the following different ones:
> Food
> Hot Spring / resort
> Country park and outskirt areas by bus tour

Since you are in Taiwan for the first time, I suggest that you stick to the first and second theme of travel. You can spend a day or two in a hot spring resort hotel in the PeiTou area. Pei Tou is only half an hour away from downtown by mass transit railway. Most hotels there have connecting shuttle bus service. For the rest of the time, you can stay in a hotel close to any of the downtown transit railway stations.

Night markets and the miniature museum are places you should visit while you're there.
