Any Hunters?

I'm not a hunter, but I think I understand what you mean. It's like that with stuff you grow yourself (fruit, veg, herbs) they taste miles better than what you buy. I know they're fresher because you just pick them then cook them, but there is something special about eating something you grew yourself.

As much as I have enjoyed hunting, I don't approve of spear hunting unless it's a necessity for survival. A boar is very powerful, and it would take more than one stab to finish it off.
I do like bow hunting though, which it isn't much of a difference, but I would slit the animal's throat for a quick death if it's still alive after the arrow penetrated it. It isn't usually a problem with small game, but larger animals like deer can survive an arrow in the side for a good period of time.
I've only killed two living things without eating them. I regret it and it was due to inexperience and not malice.
In Islam, hunting is frowned upon but not forbidden unless it's a nescessity for survival. That's why when I hunt I go camping with minimal amounts of food so I can justify it

wow...all this talk about killing animals for fun and food....we humans kill each other by the boatload and you're worried about a giant pig?Damn...yeah I know,the pig never bothered anybody,so leave it alone...pfft..anyone who takes on a boar with a spear,I say power to ya,you got stones..enjoy the barbecue...actually I had a little boar meat the other day that a guy I work with shot - very tasty.

I hunt Whitetail Deer every year. Have done some small game (rabbit, duck, pheasant, grouse, etc.) and have taken boar w/rifle.
In terms of "right and wrong". I am a meat eater. I eat what I kill...always. I think that if you are a meat eater you have no grounds to criticize my "cruelty". My food can and often does get away to live another season. Your meat (and mine too because I eat "store meat") is born, raised and taken to slaughter. It NEVER had a chance.
I think that hunting has given me many gifts. I respect what it means to be a carnivore. I have a respect for the wilderness. My license funds do more to conserve wildlife and land for wildlife than almost all private foundations in this state combined. And to be "sadistic" in some peoples worldview..I know how various caliber weapons "work" on animals of large size and get to have a yearly reminder of what it means to kill. I take no pleasure in the kill but I know that I have the capability. And for those who think that martial arts is about "warriorship". Hunting has been the pastime of "Warriors" (and probably the prehistoric forerunner to the fighting man) for eons.

Thank you for a thread about hunting! Have not seen very many here on MAP. Was really pleased that I ran across this while off work for a couple of days. What part of Tn. is Clarksville located? Have done some fishing around LBL and Oak Ridge. Would enjoy to hunt with a spear yet almost certain that's not legal here in Ky. Nor is Bowfishing which I would love doing.
There seems to be a lot of discussion about the fairness of hunting different kinds of game and the equipment we use. Just wanted to add my views on the subject. Several years ago I decided to give up deer hunting with either a muzzle loader or modern rifle. Have since only used a compound bow (although considering a crossbow too). Despite all the regulations in place it seems hunting with firearms has become increasingly dangerous. Between the number of hunters increasing and the behavior of many it seems more feasable to only hunt with archery equipment. Not that I would slight against anyone for using firearms. Maybe someday I will have private land to hunt on and use firearms then.
Hunting with a bow is more challenging. Although I'm obviously biased more hunters should give archery a try. Far as giving the animals a chance goes I admire those who actually track game as opposed to sitting up a tree stand across from where they have been feeding deer all year. Hunting is supposed to be a legacy passed down generations. Not just something people brag about on breaks at work. Far as the legal aspects go I know some regulations are necessary. Yet in the end it's up to us hunters to pursue or way of life in a ethical manner. Otherwise the future of hunting might be dim.
