hi I am or was fixing a briggs and stratton 4 stroke mower engine how ever upon stripping i have found that the main bearing the crank shaft goes through has worn into a slight oval so the shaft has a lot of play this bearing is built into the block and cant be replaced i wondered wether or not it could be machined back into shape but then would the hole be too big for the crank to fit snugly into? other wise id have to replace the block and the piston and if i do that i might as well just buy another engine is there anything that can be done short of new block/piston ect?

im not a mechanic but i am an engineering student in another field so im not entirely clueless
any help appreciated
