Anyone FROM Las Vegas? Help with Vacation House Rental please...?

I am looking at two Vacation rentals, one in Summerlin, and one in Southern Highlands (Blue Diamond Rd & Decatur, Just North of Southern Highlands). Can anyone in Vegas tell me which area would be better for a family of 4 adults + 1 toddler? Which one is nicer, closer to shops and still accessible to the strip???

Neither is extremely close to the Strip however the Blue Diamond one is closer than Summerlin. Either area is nice and I don't know how one would be considered more family friendly. You have to remember that outside of the Strip, Vegas is like any other city. There are regular stores all over the place; there are parks; there is traffic.
