I have been thinking of getting a 2005 Chevy Cobalt LS (preowned) so I have been researching it and just found some problems while checking the Office of Defect Investigations (ODI) website. It appears that all years of Cobalts have issues with the power steering failing while driving and many 2005 models have problems with airbags not deploying and seat belts failing to lock during a crash. Naturally, this has made me reconsider. The power steering problem has been reported as only being fixed by replacing the whole steering column with cost estimates ranging from $700 up to $2000.
Has anyone else who is familiar with the cars had any similar problems or can you offer any advice about the car. I have read many things on here where people are talking about them being great cars and stuff but I am naturally worried. Thank you in advance for your help.
