Batteries die. If you didn't follow the directions to let it run down then charge it completely back up, then let it run all the way down, then charge it all the way back up, etc., etc., it'll die faster. But either way, it'll die.

...year ago. What's going on? I got my Dell Latitude d630 less than a year ago but it already has sent me a little message that says "This battery has reached the end of its usable life, however it will continue to charge normally." I asked some of my friends and they said that that message should not be showing up so soon. What is going on?

Doubt if Dell warrantys batteries.

But about one to one-and-a-half years is common battery life.

Q How long does a Dell laptop battery last? When should I consider replacing mine?
A All rechargeable batteries wear out with time and usage. As time and cumulative use increase, the performance will degrade. For the typical user, noticeable reduction in run time generally will be observed after 18 to 24 months. For a power user, reduction in run time generally may be experienced prior to 18 months. We recommend buying a new Dell laptop battery when the run time does not meet your needs.
