Can you help settle a disagreement between my wife and I?? My 9 year old daughter told the following joke:

A man walked up to a blond woman with headphones and removed them. The blond fell to the ground and starting gasping for air. Puzzled, the man put the head phones to his own ears and heard the tape the woman was listening to: 'breathe, breathe, breathe...:.

My response to this is that my wife should have immediately explained to the child that any 'joke' which enforces or references any stereotype about any particular group of people is dead wrong, and that the proper response would have been to use this moment as a teaching point about dealing with people of different groups and explain how harmful stereotypes are. My wife feels that I am totally off base and that the joke is harmless coming from a nine-year old, that since 'anyone, even a muslim or a black person can dye their hair blond, calling a person a blond when your intent is to call them stupid is not offensive to blonds."

What do you think?

There's nothing wrong with educating your child about stereotypes. Good for you. But that joke was hella funny.

Your wife is right. It was a joke and isnt hurtful to blondes anyway. besides its not like the understand blonde jokes anyway
