Are celebrity acceptance speeches improper?

We hear this all the time, especially on televised award shows (e.g., Golden Globes, Grammy, or Academy Awards, etc) in which the celebrity recipient tells the audience his or her acceptance speech. For instance, a celebrity would state:

1) "I want to thank ..."
2) "I would/I'd like to thank ..."
3) "I have to thank ..."

However, has the celebrity really thanked anyone, "technically"? I mean, why have the desire to thank people in the near future when you can thank them at that moment in time?

Based on my knowledge of the words "want" and "would", either one denotes a desire or wish to do something.

Is it not correct, or perhaps "better", to say, "I thank the members of the Academy for this award." rather than "I would like to thank the Academy for this award."?

Please provide your sources.

Thank you.

P.S.: I am not referring to all celebrities, but in general.
