im thinking of getting a dawes lightning sport for $250 at some shop near my home. it looks really good and im sure the frame is the right size for me but i don't know much about bikes..
so any tips on what i should look for in the bike and is 250 a good price?
it looks exactly like this one except different pedals

That Dawes Lightning Sport is a bit old-school... It's a steel-frame bike (CroMoly) with stem shifters (the gear shifting levers are mounted on the center stem).

Since you are a beginner cyclist, if you want traditional road drop bars, I'd recommend looking for something with shifters that are integrated into the brake levers, which are a bit more beginner-friendly (so you won't have to take your hands off the handlebars when shifting gears).

Or a flat-bar road bike with handlebar-mounted indexed "rapid-fire" finger shifters.. Those are beginner-friendly too.

They are ok, do not get it if the frame is not the right size.
