Are male guppies not born with gonopodiums?

I am trying to sex my guppies and I'm wondering if I just need to wait a while. While they all have fancy tails (their moms both are fancy-tailed), none of them seem to have gonopodiums. Also, they are not terribly colorful yet - other than the tails. I would estimate that the oldest ones are maybe 2 months old. I just want to get the males to another tank before any more hanky-panky goes on. Anyone have any answers for me?

It's hard to tell with young guppies. With fancy guppies you have to look at the colouring and the tail shape while they're young. I find that male guppies have a longer and more flowing tail while the females have less colouring on their bodies. Hope it helped!
