...Music seems to be constantly changing, wealth in the here and now, to be lost, but, to guide those that follow, while art, is lost until discovered and embraced by the past to guide the art of those following?...I am interested in all thoughts.

My Perspective: A musician may have the ability to put notes or sounds together that are pleasing to the ear. There are many musicians out there. When these sounds touch your heart and soul and give meaning to many in such a way that it is timeless, it has been created by an artist. You can't hang a beautiful song on the wall and admire it. You must experience it. Tie it to a memory to keep with you forever. Like the song that makes you remember your first love.

When you walk upon a scenery and it just so beautiful you can only experience it when you are there its like an unwritten poem in your head. Then someone paints a picture of it and you see it on the wall and you can even remember the way it smelled as you were standing there. It was created by an artist. That person understood that beauty you felt and was able to translate it to something everyone can see and feel. That is art! Any thing else would be a photo or a painting.

Popular Music is some what guided by a small few who choose who to let in on the radio and TV. The radio and TV are not guided by what is beautiful or great in all cases, but by what makes the most money and gets the highest ratings. Art is sort of like wine ,the older it is and if the artist is passed away the more it is appreciated. Art is still changing too like music. People go through different fads and styles and the art sometimes flows along with that. Right now I like the shabby look to art, chipping and peeling and layers and textures and it is very popular now. When Picasso was doing art(I don't know much about it ) but now that I think about it ,his art went with the style of the times. All the old artists used to copy each other to a degree and learn from one another and many of the artists of today are still doing the same things now .

No. Both are mere entertainment. Neither changes history. They are both the painting you hang on the wall while politicians, scientists , business leaders and soldiers change the world, for better or worse..

I think music and art can be more then mere entertainment. It's a form of human expression. Art, music, science, philosophy, politics will be a part of our legacy.
