Are the Boy Scouts of America a public or private institution?

I know they are commonly known as a private institution but i've heard they receive government money.

They are private, yes. But they do receive government funding - not enough to run the institution in its entirety though...

Some would argue "public" because they are bowing to Government pressure, however.
