I'm no longer on their list because of my age, but I registered a few months before I turned 18. The problem I have is if women want to be equal, then they need to be required to register for the selective service. Or do they want to be equal in only "some" ways?
First, look at the term, Selective Service. Call it what it is, a draft. Men can get forced into fighting a war and killing or dying in some other country.
It is easy for anyone who doesn't have to sign up for it to say others are cowards or selfish. First, they have nothing to fear, they will never be forced to go die in a war. Second, everyone is selfish, and the draft is an easy scapegoat to hide someone else's selfishness.
What is the legitimate point? First, it technically violates the mans constitutional rights. Second, if I had to sign up for it, (i have a chronic illness that prevents me from serving), I would have gladly went to Afganistan to fight the true enemies of America. On the other hand, I would have hated to have to go to Iraq so that Bush and his cronies can have more control over oil.
Just, imagine, being forced to risk your life for a cause you do not believe in. Or being forced to risk your life, so the corrupt president can get rich. It is not cowardis to stand up for your beliefs in the face of ridicule. It is not patriotism to put a bumper sticker on your car and call the next guy a traitor for not having one.
