Are the rumours I keep hearing about SM entertainment true?

I am really excited about auditioning for SM entertainment, but I keep reading on the internet and hearing from people that they are a very abusive company... As in like... overworking their artists and I even heard that one artist was hit occasionally by his manager... So should I be re-thinking my decision to audition for them?
