If so, that means the tar was there before the dinosaurs. So how could oil be a product of fossilized vegetation?
 
No
Only Pleistocene animals and plants have been found there

The oldest fossils found there are about 38,000 years old
 
No. They were all eaten by the Mammoths and Mastodons and Sabre tooth tigers by the time the pits were made.

Most oil is under the sea. It is made from fossilized fish.
